Empire Every Day 012

If you’ve never seen the original cut of the movie, you’ve never seen the original Emperor. All the special editions replaced the original actor with Ian McDiarmid. But did you know the original face of the emperor was provided by a woman?

FACT: Marjorie Eaton, who provided the face of the Emperor in the original version of the film, was born in 1901, making her the earliest-born actor in any Star Wars movie. Only Max Von Sydow, who was 86 when he made The Force Awakens, and Christopher Lee, who was 82 when he made Revenge Of The Sith, were older.

I knew the original Emperor wasn’t Ian but I had absolutely no idea it was a woman, let alone the earliest-born actor. You really do learn something new every day. That’s what I find so fun about doing this and watching ESB every single day. You think you know something like the back of your hand but there is always something new to discover or find.

New posts every day. May the force be with you.
