Spider-Man 3 To Feature Hobgoblin?

A Sony marketing account shares an image of Ned (Jacob Batalon) that might give clues as to the character’s fate in the upcoming film.

Ned is Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) best friend and one of the only people to know Peter’s secret identity as the web-slinging wall crawler. Batalon recently lost a lot of weight which could be a clue for Marvel Studios and Sony’s plans for him in Spider-Man 3.

There is precedent for Ned becoming the Hobgoblin, it isn’t an entirely new idea. In the comics, Ned briefly becomes the Hobgoblin while under the control of the actual Hobgoblin, Roderick Kingsley. Kingsley hasn’t been introduced yet in the MCU so Ned may become the Hobgoblin in an entirely new way that has yet to be seen. People have speculated that Jacob Batalon’s weight loss is related to the role but there is no way of knowing that for sure at the moment. Sony recently stoked the Ned as Hobgoblin flames when they posted a marketing image for the movie.

On an Instagram account belonging to the character of the MCU’s Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori), Sony posted a picture of Ned and Betty (Angourie Rice) with a poll asking who’s worse. Betty’s face has two devil horns drawn on but what’s even more interesting is the orange hood shape drawn behind Ned’s head. This is either Sony subtly confirming the rumors or flat out confirming it and trying to hide it in plain sight. The Image is below:

If the rumors are true and Ned does become the Hobgoblin then this movie will be packed with both heroes and villians. At this point I don’t know if I want this to happen because as of know this movie is shaping up to be another Spider-Man 3 (2007) which is funny because this movie is also going to be Spider-Man 3. Here is a picture of Hobgoblin from the comics if you have no idea what the Hobgoblin is or or looks like:

As much as I want to see the Hobgoblin in the MCU, I don’t want it to come at the cost of a good movie. I don’t want this next entry in the Spider-Man series to be bogged down with heroes and villians and feel bloated, but only time will tell. For now, nothing is confirmed so we will have to wait until December and see for ourselves.
