The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal is set to star as Joel in The Last of Us, HBO’s adaptation of the Sony Playstation franchise. The Last of Us is being helmed by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
“Players control Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States.”
That is a description of “The Last of Us” the video game and I would imagine that the TV adaptation wouldn’t diverge from the story of the game.
Pedro Pascal is coming back to HBO, we last saw him as Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones. Pascal currently stars in Disney+’s critically acclaimed and immensely popular series The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series.
I know many people on the internet wanted Nikolaj Coster-Waldau to portray Joel in The Last of Us but I think this is great casting. Pascal is arguably one of the biggest stars on the planet right now and incredibly marketable, very smart move on HBO’s part.
Filming on The Last of Us has not yet started. We can expect the series to premiere sometime next year.
